REGISTER TO VOTE (or Update Your Registration)
Step 1 (of 5): See if You're Eligible

Before You Begin:

  • You will need an email address. Use a paper application if you don't have one.
  • You will need your Minnesota driver’s license or Minnesota identification card number. If you don't have one of these, you may use the last four numbers of your Social Security number. If you don't have either of these, use a paper application.
  • If you are a participant in Minnesota’s Safe at Home Address Confidentiality Program, do not register to vote or update your registration online. Contact Safe at Home at 1-866-723-3035.

Find more information about elections and voter registration, including the availability of registration and voting assistance for the elderly or individuals with disabilities, and residents of health care facilities and hospitals.

Please note: You must answer all questions in order to register to vote. You will have 10 minutes to complete each step of this application. If you do not finish a step within that time, you will start over at Step 1.
Scroll down to get started.

Are you a U.S. citizen? You must already be a U.S. citizen to register or vote. If you will become a U.S. citizen soon, wait to register until after you get your citizenship.

Will you be at least 18 on or before the next election?

Are you currently incarcerated, on parole, or on probation as part of a felony conviction sentence? (If you’ve had a felony conviction, you can vote once you complete your sentence.) When you finish your felony sentence, you automatically get your right to vote back. Wait to register until then, even if you know you will finish your sentence by Election Day.
